Endoscopy services at Aut Even Hospital are provided by a team of Consultants with expert knowledge and clinical experience in the fields of Gastroenterology, Colorectal Surgery and General Surgery. For the majority of patients, endoscopy procedures are carried out as a day-case procedure.

Your GP may recommend an endoscopy procedure to further assess symptoms such as:

  • Stomach pain
  • Ulcers, gastritis, or difficulty swallowing
  • Digestive tract bleeding
  • Changes in bowel habits (chronic constipation or diarrhoea)
  • Polyps or growths in the colon

This procedure allows for a visual inspection of the interior of the oesophagus stomach and duodenum without making an incision. Requiring only mild sedation, an endoscope (a small, highly flexible tube with a minute video camera at the end) is passed through the mouth and into the stomach.

A colonoscopy is an endoscopic examination of the large intestine (colon) to enable a visual inspection of the entire bowel and the removal or sampling of any abnormalities found.
