Dr. Catherine Foley, MB BCh BAO MRCPI, graduated with honours from University College Dublin (UCD) School of Medicine in 2008 and completed an internship and basic medical training within the St. Vincent’s Healthcare group. During this time, she was awarded membership of the RCPI. In 2011, she began her dermatology training at St. James’s Hospital and subsequently completed the highly competitive Irish Higher Specialist Training Scheme in Dermatology with rotations in Dublin, Cork and Galway.
After completing her dermatology residency, Catherine pursued further subspecialty fellowship training in skin cancer and genital dermatology, both male and female, at University College Hospital, London. She returned to Dublin in May 2019 to a consultant position at St. Vincent’s University Hospital before joining the Beacon Hospital Group in March 2020 and Aut Even in January 2021.
Catherine has maintained a dedication to excellence in patient care throughout her training and as a consultant. Her clinical interests include inflammatory skin diseases, acne, genital dermatoses and rapid diagnosis and management of skin cancer with same-day surgery for suspected melanoma. She is passionate about ensuring all physicians have access to Dermatology teaching and regularly facilitates small group peer learning through the CME networks in primary care and grand rounds within the hospital.
Catherine’s research interests include skin cancer and genital lichen scleroses. She continues to work on several research projects through ongoing collaboration with University College London. In addition, she has written a chapter for Neonatal and Infant Dermatology, and regularly publishes her research findings in high impact international journals. She particularly enjoys presenting her research nationally and internationally and has been awarded multiple scholarships from the British Association of Dermatologists, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology and the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr Foley is due to join the Aut Even team early in 2021.
