Our panel of Expert Voices will be led by Dr Willie Stewart (Consultant Neuropathologist from Southern General Hospital, Glasgow).

He will be joined by Alan Quinlan (ex-Munster & Ireland), Kevin McLaughlin (ex-Leinster & Ireland), Henry Shefflin (needs no introduction!) and Rena Buckley (Irish Times/ Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Year for 2015 & winner of 16 All-Ireland medals). Cashel Community School, Silver Medalists at The 2015 Young Social Innovators Awards for their work on educating young people about the dangers of concussion, will also contribute.

Concussion is a popular topic in the media at the moment.

Johnny Sexton’s return to play in the Six Nations after a 12-week layoff had been well flagged. There’s been the recent release of the movie ‘Concussion’ starring Will Smith, which reveals the work of Dr Bennet Omalu concerning brain injury within the NFL. And the opening weekend of the Allianz Football League was steeped in controversy following the decision to keep Mayo’s captain Lee Keegan on the field after a clash of heads with opponent Eoin Cadogan.

The aim of our event is to gain a healthy general understanding of concussion and how it can be effectively managed and treated. Audience members will also be given the opportunity to ask questions of the panel. The event is especially important and relevant to those playing sport, those who have loved ones playing sport and for those involved in sports at a coaching or training level.
